The Founding Journey
The Beginnings and Isolated Actions
It all began in the 1980s. People with disabilities, wishing to improve their working and living conditions, started with isolated actions. Among the visually impaired, this was the case for Ndangang (West Region) through UGAGIC, and Kihi Menye (Lékié Department). Joining other leaders such as Ondoua Abah Gabriel, Oyono Zambo Robert, Ondoa Samson, and Nyemb, they united and appealed to the President of the Republic to structure people with disabilities. This led to the birth of FENHACAM, followed by a growth of specialized associations.
Official Creation of ANAC
On Wednesday, December 18, 1985, the National Association of the Blind of Cameroon was established in Yaoundé. Founded on the initiative of young blind people trained at the Rehabilitation Institute of Buea (RIB), under the supervision of the Ministry of Social Affairs, it marked the official beginning of the structured struggle for the visually impaired. The Yaoundé congress was organized by public authorities, with the help of Étienne Didier ONANA and Senator Robert OYONO.

Legal Status
Recognized as a Public Utility
ANAC is officially recognized as a public utility organization by Decree No. 72/DF/315 of July 19, 1971.
Note: This recognition prior to 1985 indicates that the legal status covered the organization of blind persons in Cameroon before its structure in its current form.Territorial Representation
ANAC is structured and represented across Cameroon's 10 regions through:
- Its branches (the regional delegations)
- The Youth Committee
- The Women's Committee
- The National Bureau
The Executive Board
The executive management body of the association is composed of a strong management team, including:
- The Executive Board consisting of 9 members.
- The president of CONAFAC.
- The 10 regional delegates and 5 heads of specialized departments.
Affiliations & Network Ecosystem
National Integration
Founding member of the Inclusive Society for Persons with Disabilities platform (National network for inclusion in Cameroon).
Permanent member of the Human Rights Commission.
